Ben Jammin' Beats, real name Benjamin Kath, is a lo-fi beats producer hailing from Minneapolis, Minnesota. He also releases music as Illuzionary pumpkin seeds, named after his dog Pumpkin.
Benjamin was born and raised in a smaller town than the Twin Cities, where his passion for hip hop began to blossom during his high school years. Immersed in the sounds of Eminem, Dr. Dre, and Snoop Dogg, he found himself captivated by the beats, drops and transitions.
Inspired by the unique and emotive sound of Minnesota's own Atmosphere, Benjamin embarked on his musical journey in 2009, delving into beat-making throughout his college years while gracing stages with live performances on weekends. Not content with solely producing beats, he embraced the role of an MC, incorporating his keyboard skills to keep crowds engaged with smooth transitions, breakdowns, and solo sections.
Early on, Benjamin's enthusiasm for music led him to produce an EP about skateboarding and relationships with a friend, nurturing dreams of fame. Though fame proved elusive, his passion for music persisted. As he pursued a tech degree in St. Cloud, he continued experimenting with solo projects and performed in college talent shows, discovering a flair for charismatic and unpredictable stage presence.
Graduating with a marketing degree, Benjamin moved to the Twin Cities with hopes of connecting music with his professional life. Exploring his artistry, he released further rap projects before ultimately transitioning to his secondary form of income: producing instrumental chillhop music.
Embracing the challenge of creating chill music without the reliance on lyrics, Benjamin's musical growth flourished in the instrumental world. He poured his energy into refining musical elements, allowing him to land on prominent study beat playlists on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music. As his name gained recognition in the genre, he began supporting his peers, sharing his expertise to help them succeed in the business.
In his chillhop compositions, Benjamin infuses a refreshing and upbeat flavor, influenced by the West Coast and enriched with jazz-style improvisation. Many of his tracks draw inspiration from city themes and reflect his everyday life through carefully selected samples and captivating ambience.
