African American music hall performer born in Chicago in 1874. Her act in music halls consisted of her singing surrounded by a small group of young boy dancers, her "Pickaninnies." or "Picks". She toured Europe for many years from 1905 until at least the first years of World War I. She visited England, Belgium, Germany, Prague and Vienna, receiving very favorable reviews.
She was a virtual conduit for young talented african-american dancers to launch a career in Europe. Among her picks who became star dancers in their own right were, Lewis Douglas, Archie Ware, Chick Horsey, Walter Humphries and (probably) Carrie Nugent.
