Barry Manilow (born Barry Alan Pincus on June 17, 1943) is an American singer, songwriter, and record producer whose career has spanned over six decades. He is known for numerous popular recordings, including "Could It Be Magic", "Looks Like We Made It", "Mandy", "I Write the Songs", "Can't Smile Without You", "Weekend in New England", and "Copacabana (At the Copa)".
Manilow has achieved significant success on the Adult Contemporary Chart, with 51 Top 40 singles, including 13 number one hits, 28 top ten entries, and 36 songs reaching the top twenty. He has released 13 platinum albums and six multi-platinum albums. While critical reception of his work has varied, he has been recognised within the music industry by peers and collaborators. In the 1970s, Frank Sinatra reportedly endorsed his potential by stating, "He's next."
In addition to his work as a recording artist, Manilow has written and performed music for stage musicals, films, and commercial advertising campaigns for major companies such as McDonald's, Pepsi, and Band-Aid. He has been nominated for Grammy Awards fifteen times between 1973 and 2015, winning once, and has been recognised for his work as a producer, arranger, and performer.
