Biography
Babblefish were a pub/club band which played a mix of covers and their own material. They were formed in 1995 and were active till 1997. Their influences were many and varied including The Stranglers, Genesis(early), Kate Bush and Pink Floyd. They were very popular in their "home" town of Peterborough and the surrounding area. The band were known as "a stadium rock band that plays pubs!"
The band were Richard Tinsley (Vocals), Simon Woodfield (Keyboards), Cliff Sancaster (Guitar), Nick Blackwell (Guitar), Andy MIlls (Bass) and Jez Botley(drums).
They managed to be very popular with local audiences despite the fact that their sets consisted of 80% new, original material when the local music scene was dominated by covers bands.
Babblefish tried to ensure that any covers they did were not those done by all of the other bands of the time. This led them to include in their set Golden Brown by the Stranglers, Common People by Pulp, Stereotypes by Blur, Pretty in Pink by The Psychedelic Furs, Turn On, Tune In, Cop Out by Freakpower, Creep by Radiohead People are Strange by The Doors, The One I Love by REM and Porch by Pearl Jam.
