"thank u, next" is about moving on from past relationships and being content and grateful for the lessons learned. She expresses gratitude for the self-growth she experienced from each relationship. The lyrics show appreciation for being able to move on positively, with a newfound strength that came from her mistakes, pains and lessons. The song is a reminder to never be ashamed of having once loved, and that even after heartbreak and struggles, life goes on and is better.
