Biography

Angelic Grvnt was formed in Paris, France by singer Bruce Johnson (ex- U.S.M.C. Grunt thus the name of the band.)And guitarist/singer Vincent DeHail. We met because my former girlfriend and his current girlfriend worked together. I was doing Funk and Jazz at the time and Vincent was doing different things. Vincent came over one evening and brought along this "King's X" tape! When I heard it I thought this is it, this is what I want to do! I could hear the soul over the top of those saturated guitars! We started by transforming one of my funk tunes "When will I see you again" into Rock. We continued composing some songs up to the point that a common friend introduced us to his then producer who wanted to take us on to her label! We formed our first band to rehearse and record the album. Once the rhythm tracks were down and I was to redo the vocals I discovered that the grooves weren't right! We expressed this to the producer who agreed to re-record once we had found the replacement musicians. While I was away in the French Alps skiing one night I went out to this club and there was a French grunge band playing who were really good but the drummer was even better! He had a kit that was simple and even jazz-ish and he had a way of playing that ride that was like "This boy can play"! I didn't approach them and even returned a second night to hear them! Now that I’m writing this I am thinking that this incident happened before we recorded the first time! Anyway, I return to Paris, life goes on and we find ourselves against a big wall with the band and recording. We have to tell the guys that it wasn't happening after all the rehearsals where the drummer kept telling me, Man I don't think I have the level to play theses tunes and I kept thinking what a modest guy. My fault! One day I was with another friend bass player who's girlfriend also worked with mine and Vincent's girlfriend and I'm crying about this great drummer I saw in the alps and says well I have friend would be great for your project and low and behold it was the same guy I had loved in the alps!!! The twilight zone music is ringing in my head now! Sylvain Joasson didn't accidentally impress me; he loves to play free jazz and Coltrane. On Bass we have Viche De Vince who I can't recall how we met now but his talent is no less evident and every time I listen to these recording I think…! With these new additions we recorded but the project prematurely came to its end due to a big misunderstanding with the producer. Through sellaband we hope to bring the album back to life so that we can continue our journey and find the means to record the other new tracks that we have on the shelf! "One Tomorrow” Enjoy.
