Alex comes from the middle of nowhere. Despite these nondescript surroundings, he discovered things to write songs about, and bundled them up into a little EP at the start of 2006. Unsurprisingly, they were the stuff of small-town desolation and dead-pan parochial misery, interspered with an occasional bit of mustered sarcasm. Since then Alex has cheered up a bit and has even developed an alternative personality, Hugo Left Hand, a torch-bearer of something altogether more jangly and nice. No stranger to an identity crisis, Alex & Hugo are now performing their shared repertoire around London.
