Akrep Nalan is a Turkish singer who was born in Yenimahalle, Ankara; on April 26, 1954. Her real name is Füsun Nalan Açın; and her nickname, "Akrep Nalan", which means "Nalan the Scorpion", is given by her company when she wins her first bet for a horse race which has a racer named Akrep and there is a militant woman who is mentioned as Akrep Nalan in Turkish newspaper headlines, in those activist days of Turkey.
She's the only child of her mother Hasibe and her father Vasfi. In their social environment, her mother is reputed with her beautiful voice and singing ability, and her father is a good listener and a tech-savvy, so in their home, they've the best music systems. Therefore singing becomes a thing which is from the heart of life for her; like breathing and walking.
She comes out of her elementary school at Ankara Bahçelievler Alparslan Primary School, and her secondary school at Girls' High School of Adana and Trading High School of Uşak. Between 1972-1980, she works as a bookkeeper in the Şaban Karamancı Iron Tensile Factory, Ahmet Karamancı Oxygen Factory and İnterfarma Joint-Stock Company. In the same years, she's also in the theater business, in Ankara Art House. She takes to the stage in a low musical comedy named Hamdi Ortadirek; with dramatis personae like Erol Demiröz, Savaş Yurttaş, Selçuk Uluergüven, Şener Kökkaya. When she gains experience on the stage; she goes cold on bookkeeping and she begins to work as a barmaid (maybe the first one in Ankara), together with acting career. And at the same time, she begins to sing and breaks the ice. From time to time she sings when she works at the bar and appeals to the feelings of a small audience; and then (in 1980) goes on the stage as a professional in Goldfinger Night Club, with the support of Hakkı Çağdaş. Later on she keeps on to sing at Efe Bar in Bodrum, accompanied by one single guitar. And she draws a large audience (Hotel Pirinç, Hotel Ünlü, Paradice). Then she goes to İstanbul.
After working for Club 12, Paella, Memo's and Küfe; she sings to the every part of İstanbul and Turkey. She makes her first album named Dağ Çiçeği in 1991, thanks to the self-sacrificing works of Vedat Sakman and Halis Bütünleyin. In 1996 she makes her second album named Zil Zurna Sevdalar with the labour of Selim Atakan.
Up until now, she appears in two films and two TV serials.
