Biography

Aboycalledhero were a 5-piece pop-punk/post-hardcore band from Hemel Hempstead in Hertfordshire. They began work originally under the name 'November Falls' and recorded a four-track demo with local 'bedroom producer' Dan Coffey. Making a cameo appearance on track 3 was friend of the band and the now famous, Frank Carter of Gallows. The band were considered to have great amounts of potential for such a young group of friends (ages 14 and 15). Band members were, Sam Nicholls (vocals), Ben Sansom (guitar), Alex Tompkins (guitar), Luke Sansom (bass/vocals) and Matt Britz (drums).

Original bassist James Palmer was replaced by Ben's brother Luke Sansom on Halloween 2003, the same night they changed their name to Aboycalledhero. They went on to build up a loyal fan base in the next 2 years, writing and recording 2 ep's playing gigs scattered all over the country including brief trips to Torquay (which was cancelled and they just had a few beers on the beach) and Wales. They also did a lot of work supporting Hemel Skates and were the live music for the opening of the Skate park in late 2004.

The Ep they released in early 2004 was called 'What happens to the bad guy when the good guy gets the girl' and featured their most popular songs 'All This Time' (for which there was a comical video) and 'The Theory of Closed Windows' it was recorded by a Rob Beadon who (with the rest of his family) took on the task of keeping the band organised and helping them to better themselves and increase their fan base.

The band shared the stage with Enter Shikari, Saving Aimee, Fireapple Red, Her Words Kill, Gallows, The Holiday Plan and Captain Everything.

The band first began to struggle when Alex Tompkins left the band in late 2005 and was replaced by Jay Wilson. The band were able to adjust to working with him and for several months they were able to continue playing. After a string of personal conflicts within the band and some breaking up and getting back together again, the band finally called it a day around September 2006.

Months later, Ben, Luke and Matt invited the infamous Lee Beaumont of Her Words Kill and party animal Mike Deuce to form a heavier and now more up-to-date incarnation of the band. Lower Than Atlantis (originally Atlantis) went on enjoy more success than Aboycalledhero and are still going strong after some line-up changes.

Over a year later, Sam joined the slightly angular, melodic rockers, Scholars as vocals. At the time the band were going through a huge line-up change as both guitarists and vocalist left, reducing the band to simply Chris Aylett (bass), Mike Frost (drums) as original members and now Sam Nicholls (vocals, keys) and Tom Woodstock (guitar). The band were reborn, began to write new material and are also enjoying better success.
