Revisiting EtE after initially not liking it much at all, it has turned out to be quite the grower! If you can set aside any thoughts or comparisons to the first 2 albums, and just listen to it for what it is -- you'll be surprised how good this is. I don't care for the "Fish" song much, and "Hourglass" & "Get the Lead Out" both should've been Puscifer tracks, but aside from those 3, the remaining 8 actual songs are very descent. If the 2 Puscifer-esque songs were replaced with a couple heavier rockers, (like "Pet" & "The Outsider" were on 13th Step, which was also a very mellow album otherwise), this album would be almost at the the level of the first two.
Yes ! And somehow, these songs sound so much better live, especially with emphasis on guitars. I really rediscovered this album when I saw them two times on stage. I think the minimalistic "pop" production doesn't serve the record at all and doesn't reflect how the band sounds live.
I love this new drum and piano style with classic APC's solos, it's just an amazing combination. Eat the Elephant is a really good LP, matched to APC standarts, but with own unique mood, idea and sounding that we have never heard before. New record grows so hard on me.
just listened to the new album now for the first time and god all I can say is that I'm really surprised! The whole instrumental are beautiful and talktalk is a masterpiece. Still have my love for Judith and Orestes but wow, eat the elephant got me too. Hope to see them live soon! Didn't know I was missing them. Glad I'm here again after a couple years >:)
New album is quite good - liked it on first listen.
What I miss however is some proper "Josh-Freese-is-gonna-melt-your-face-with-these-fills" drumming. :( The album feels like a collection of ballads played on a basic drum machine at times.
Dreadful cover, really decent record. Doesn't always hit the mark for me emotionally but you can tell it's objectively good. Anyone else hear TNM's ridiculous assertion that it's the best album since the mid-2000s?
He really did, didn't he?
For those looking for an alternative perspective, this is a really interesting review. Don't agree with everything, but some very solid criticisms in there: https://www.thefourohfive.com/music/review/review-14-years-turns-out-to-be-not-long-enough-as-a-perfect-circle-return-with-the-toothless-intolerably-self-important-eat-the-elephant-152
The blue and red tentacles represent left, right (republican, democrat) that are both connected to the same heart which means no matter what side they're on, they both have the same agenda and bow down to their corporate sponsors.
Basically A Perfect Circle didnt release a new album in 14 years. I waited 8 of those 14 years for this moment, which was the time I started listening to them and became one of my main favorite bands. This album is solid, in all forms. Yes it is not a heavy as anything they did in early 2000’s yet for me is not bad at all. It is absolutely different from anything they have done in the past which is just fine for me. It is also an album that has to grow on you, the more you listen the more you like it! When it comes to me it is a 9/10. I’m glad to be alive and able to listen a new APC album. 💙
Thirteenth Step and Mer de Noms were a crucial albums that defined my taste in my teens and in high school, and I was worried that the new album wouldn't be good because I'm at a different point in my life.
Still not sure if this album is capable of impact on the scale of their older records, but I'm definitely liking it a great deal more than I thought I would. Definitely pleasantly surprised-- especially with Thanks for the all the Fish. The Doomed had me with a far different expectation for the album as a whole than what we ended up getting.
I love Delicious! Lol! But the only song that I didn’t like that much was the self titled song. And also I loved the new version of By And Down but it disappointed me a little bit the fact that they did a new version for that when it would have been better to add another new song. But that’s not something APC hasn’t done before... with Pet and Counting bodies like sheep... :)
