12.ヒトエ (12.Hitoe) is a brass rock band consisting of 12 Japanese female junior high and high school students (at the time). Formed in 2000, disbanded in 2006.
Overview
The band name "12.Hitoe" is a pun on the Japanese word for "twelve-layered kimono" (12-layered kimono), with the intention of expressing the individuality and musicality of the 12 members in one work. They are also called "12.HITOE".
Formed in 2000 by 12 members who were selected through an audition hosted by Noah Prime, the management company at the time. Since the formation, the band has undergone several member changes.
Debuted in 2001 with the single "GIMMIE SHELTER" from Sony Records. Debuted as the fifth artist on the POT ARTIST (POWER OF TEENS ARTIST) label, following Hysteric Blue, Whiteberry, Rana Hanako Makisakku, and ZONE. Released their second single "X-ray" in 2002. The song was chosen as the theme song for a TV drama. They held their first concert at the end of July.
Their contract with Sony Records ended at the end of 2003. They changed their name to "Junihitoe". They continued to work as an indie band, but did not release any music. They also underwent repeated member changes and disbanded at the end of January 2006. In April of the same year, they split into two groups, "Sakura BANDA" and "DATCH CREW", and began their own activities separately, but both groups disbanded. Sano Hana also joined Gacharic Spin as the drummer, and is currently in charge of guitar and vocals.
