Makoto Kubota is a Japanese musician and producer known for his contributions to the folk-rock and world music scenes. He began his music career in the early 1970s while studying at Doshisha University. A former bassist for the avant-garde band Les Rallizes Dénudés, Kubota later formed Makoto Kubota & The Sunset Gang (久保田麻琴と夕焼け楽団), a group known for blending Okinawan, Hawaiian, and American roots music. He is recognized for his efforts in bridging traditional Japanese music with contemporary genres, thereby influencing the development of world music in Japan. His work has inspired a generation of musicians interested in cross-cultural musical exploration.
