Whilst I am a bit dissapointed that the headliners pulled out, it was still great, much fun was had!

A big thanks to the bands we did see who managed to give us a show despite the chaos and confusion around the gig

Neon Zoo are playing it seems someone maybe mistook their blog from last year. I havn;t seen any other info as regards to them being off the bill. I think people are all over with this gig now and nobody really knows whats happening. Myself included i'll just have to see what happens when i get there.

Actually, I've just read the latest blog posting on the Eddie's MySpace page which is exactly what I was told earlier this evening. Rather than repeat it here, here's the link: http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.ListAll&friendId=127242666. As you say, we'll never really know exactly what went wrong. BTW Are Neon Zoo definitely off the bill too?

I think that the whole thing will always be a little of that and a little of that both sides don't wish to come off as the one in the wrong because reputations are at stake. We'll never really know either way what happened and will just have to take account both sides have grievences with the other on the subject of what went wrong

@deaconkris & cythron: I can't say too much in a public forum, but I've spoken to someone involved with the event and apparently both FV and Grendel *WERE* booked and confirmed. The problems have been of the making of both bands' AGENTS, not the promoters or the bands themselves. Still not good though....

Can any of you send me the link where the promoter said, if I got ti correctly, that Grendel was "arsing everyone about flights"? Please post it on my profile, thank you.

A refund isn't much good to me at this point with accomodation arranged and money to loose by not canceling enough in advance so i might aswell go. Unless they offer to let me in for free i doubt any compensation would offer me more than at best some free drinks to calm down with. Yay for the long train ride getting up early to get into Birmingham on time to see a not so amazing gig >.> I'll be the guy in the grey combats and Faderhead t shirt probably downing jagermeister so i forget how much of a shit time i'm having XD

Aparently also Neon Zoo are not playing aswell. Not as big a deal as Grendel and Funker Vogt but what the hell is going on with this gig?! Jeezus

Apparently we're being offered a refund if we want it, or if we still want to go, some sort of compensation at the door. I'd have imagined it'd be a couple of free drinks or summat - can't see them giving us some cash back..The door price has been lowered too, to reflect how shit it's become. Sorry, I mean, the line-up change. The blog post on Myspace blames Grendel too, for arsing everyone about with flights etc, but I think it's swings and roundabouts really, especially after the fiasco with FV. Didn't know about the Gothica 08 thing either, otherwise we'd have been more cautious about getting the tickets so early. We're still going but we're not happy... :(

I don't think anyone will blame Grendel for this and we really hope to see you come back to the UK under better circumstances if you play the Corp in Sheffield i'll be rarther happy ^^. On another note i think if i knew about Gothica 08 being canceled 24 hours before last year then i would have been more careful about booking the tickets straight away. I've never done a gig in Birmingham before so was not familier with the club and what seems to be a bad history of promotional faliures. Had i known more i probably wouldm't have booked. On the lineup as it is now i probably wouldn't have booked and traveled and just waited to see Das Ich at the Corp since its must closer and cheaper to see a gig there. Being a promoter is not an easy job but if you can't handle things and don't have the budget to cover costs DON'T book big bands and sell tickets off their name then cancel.

We're very disappointed that we can't make it. But the circumstances were beyond our control and it's through no fault of our own that we can't make it. Hopefully we will make it out to the UK later on this year. M4RC/Grendel

It does all seem *very* fishy, doesn't it....especially after the cancellation of "Gothica '08" at just 24hrs notice last year! Even though I'm not able to go, I'm pretty pissed at the way things are going with this event; for a while it looked like we were going to get a regular Whitby/Infest style "festival" here in the Midlands - yeah right! :-( Since the club reopened at this new venue the live gigs have been an utter fiasco - cancellation after cancellation. Oh, and I have to say I was amazed by the lineup, FV, Grendel, Das Ich....seemed too good to be true....hmmmm....

I agree. If we turn up tomorrow night and Das Ich have cancelled too then that's it - I won't go in and I'll get my money back. The organisation does seem a bit haphazard. I'm hoping to get a reply off Grendel before we place all the blame at Eddies door, though with all this arsing about it doesn't bode well for future gigs there. Everyone'll leave it till the last minute to book tickets or just turn up at the door on the night just in case the bands have cancelled again.

And just while i am here i really hope this isn't some twitchy thing that the promoters have backed out of sorting out travel for the international bands if they don't get their tickets they won't fly out if they can't afford to bring them in why book them? They used some very big names to advertise this gig and sell tickets and now we are not going to see what we paid to see as advertised, A promoter has a duty to deliver to punters the show as advertised so everyone gets their moneys worth and goes home happy. They seem to have booked big names sold all the tickets then screwed them so they cancel and then they book cheaper bands in their place...We have all bought tickets and booked hotels and made arrangements already so what can we do but go and hope Das Ich are not messed about too so we can salvage some of what we paid to see...

So are Das Ich actually going to be there or am i going to go and find out they have mysterously canceled too? The organisation of this gig is all over the place it seems but maybe i'm more used to Infest where everything is well organised and they are on the ball.

@deaconkris...yup Grendel have indeed cancelled. Their bulletin on Myspace says.. 'Sadly the show this Saturday, March 7th, is canceled, due to circumstances we are not responsible for. We hope to see you guys soon though later in the year elsewhere in the UK or at Club AntiChrist, London March 27th (DJ VLRK @ PFI hall).' I asked them if they could let us know what the circumstances were. Fucks sake, first FV, now Grendel - this is turning into a right load of bollox. Not a happy bunny :(

@Ensor From what i read V2A were booked for it ages ago they are not so much a replacement i know the night will be a launch of their first proper album or something. I remember seeing them on the myspace page for the event ages ago and listening to their stuff. Marko is just in everyones band lol He plays Synths live for Grendel anyways.

@cythron: I've had to back out of going to this gig as well as Apop. :-( My anxiety is just too bad (I'm practically bed-ridden again by it). On the bright side, a couple of my friends might be going to Combichrist at The Robin and have offered me a lift if they do - something to get better for. :-)

It probably went something like this.. EDDIES - " Would Funker Vogt like to play our festival?" FUNKER VOGT'S AGENT - " Hmm..maybe.." EDDIES (after putting the phone down) - " WOOHOO! Funker Vogt are playing - advertise it asap!" Call me cynical if you like - I've been called worse :P Doesn't seem to be anyone else replacing them at the moment - it's only a week away too :S Fuck it...we've decided to go anyway..

They advertised Funker Vogt without even booking them? I though that kind of behaviour from venue bookers was long gone. I bet they don't even replace them either or they will book another local act. Since Marko is there with Grendel maybe we could have XP8 too? That would make my day Kris <3's XP8 ^^

This is the message I got off Eddies...''We have been just been told that they will be coming to play for us in Birmingham later in the year though.'' ..so it sounds like they're still trying to get them to play there. We'll have to wait and see eh? Yeah Combi at The Robin! More trouble than it's worth. Fuck it, I'm off to the Corp in Sheffield - at least I know where I'm going. Shame you can't get to the Apop gig though :(

Ooops, missed your last shout; was composing mine while you were posting yours. Did they say if FV would be playing at Eddie's later in the year or just Birmingham in general? IKWYM about Apop, I WAS planning on going but my blasted anxiety has flared up again of late and I don't think I'll be able to do both now (it completely ruined the VNV gig for me at the end of '07). :-( Then there's Combichrist....why the "Robin" at Bilston? Might as well be in London when you're stuck with public transport - in fact London would probably be easier!

I checked both Grendel and Das Ich's Myspace pages yesterday and they're still both listed as playing..so you never know. I had a message off Eddies too, and they say they booked FV but ran into problems with their agent. They did say they'll be playing in Birmingham later in the year though. I was hoping that after all this faffing about they'd play Infest at least. Fingers crossed! Dunno whether to get my money back or just go anyway. I want to see Apop the week after but haven't got any spare cash at the mo. Hmm...problems problems!

WARNING!! FUNKER VOGT ARE NOT PLAYING THIS GIG! It's on their Myspace page, and I got a message off them saying, basically, the promoter put their name forward without telling them. I've seen Grendel twice and I'm not bothered about Das Ich as they're touring with Gothminister in May. I was only really going for FV :( Might have to see about getting my money back unless another good band steps in...
