Description

Manchester’s Cavan Moran released his latest single, Lonely Rival, on 7” vinyl via his own label, C33 Records, late last year. The follow-up to last year’s Five Simple Crimes EP is Moran’s first vinyl release and paves the way for his debut album, which will be released via the French vinyl-only label Celebration Days Records in 2015.

Moran has already graced some of the world’s finest stages, including London’s Union Chapel, New York’s Knitting Factory and La Fle?che D’Or in Paris – and the songs are built to fill such stunning spaces. Lonely Rival appears to deal with the fear of writer’s block, the dreaded curse of any songwriter. Crisp guitar and mournful harmonica introduce Moran’s rich vocal, before Emma Whitworth’s pretty piano line and a gentle drum beat embellish the arrangement. Hanami’s John Wilson adds understated lead guitar, as the song drifts to its mellow conclusion.

On the flip side is the sublime Pricked To A Pattern. The piano is again prominent but this time joined by accordion and banjo, giving it a more traditional folk flavour. Whitworth’s backing vocals, although subtle, meld with Moran, in perfect harmony. Writer’s block seems light years away.

‘Lonely Rival is an anthem that could be heard in a living room or a large stadium. A universal sound that speaks volumes and if more industry folks had a clue, they would embellish artists like Cavan Moran more often’ – Hit Makers Music

Main support comes from Hawker Reunion, an alt-folk group who write songs through the rain of Manchester. With leanings towards M Ward, Phosphorescent and Will Oldham, the group started as a recording project and over recent months have begun turning themselves to live performance, already supporting acts such as The Wave Pictures, Ethan Johns, Sweet Baboo and Monument Valley.

Opening the show is Kai Ohio.
