25 years VK Concerts

We are proud to invite and welcome you on a 3-day, colorful free festival starting Friday the 20th of June untill Sunday the 22nd, in collaboration with Maison des Cultures and the municipality of Sint-Jans-Molenbeek.

The perfect occasion to celebrate: 25 years of VKconcerts, Molenbeek that got elected as the Cultural metropole of 2014, Fête de la Musique and, last but not least, the reconstruction of the historic town square of Sint-Jans-Molenbeek.

Which reggae lover doesn't know Max Romeo? Since the start of his career in 1965 this charismatic singer has had countless musical collaborations with artists such as The Upsetters, Lee Perry, The Rolling Stones and the Italians of Tribù Acustica. After the worldwide success of hits such as "Chase The Devil" and "War Inna Babylon", Max Romeo returned in 2004 with a new album "A Little Time For Jah". The songs have a clear and powerful sound which made the album probably one of the best records of his career! Over the years, Max Romeo undertook several European tours, where he could always count on an enthusiastic crowd. This time we expect no different!

Imagine a mix of the Muppet Show and Wu-Tang Clan. In their live shows they bring a unique combination of music and entertainment, where a healthy portion of absurdity is never far away. Not to be missed!

Their music combines the versatility of Jazz with references to contemporary electronic dance music, 70's Soul, 90's Hip hop and Future Beat. A performance of STUFF. is reminiscent of an exciting DJ set that mixes the acapella versions of Beastie Boys and BIG with beats influenced by Clark, Dorian Concept, Flying Lotus and Hudson Mohawke.

Quartet from Brussels who started conquering the world since their debut single ‘Mexico’. With their refreshing rhythm sections, tribal beats and tropical bass lines, they get everyone dancing. In 2012 they released their EP ‘Wounded’ and then they took ample time for their first full length album. Last year they were voted by NME as “one of the most exciting new bands of 2013”, a title they will fulfil with their album ‘Patine’!

Friday night we’ll start the weekend with MolemCapitale, the grooves of the Ivorian bass player Manou Gallo, the mix of traditional Brazilian music and reggae of Flavia Coelho and the most atypical Fanfare Orchestra of the Maghreb, Fanfaraï. On Sunday, we’ll end the weekend with the uplifting beats of Omar Souleyman and Idir’s traditional Algerian music.
