Description
New Zealand's most successful 16 year old is touring Australia this October.
Lorde's had a pretty good year. She's been on a non-stop touring schedule in the past months, stopping in New York and LA as well as her native New Zealand, and commendably making as many of these shows all-ages as possible. Her recent set at Splendour where she filled in for Frank Ocean, and "captivated the audience with a flawless rendition of debut hit single 'Tennis Court'," didn't hurt either.
Now the young Kiwi is returning to tour on the back of her debut full-length album, Pure Heroine. Out September 27, Pure Heroine will feature 'Tennis Court' and the double-platinum selling 'Royals' as well as eight new tracks, including 'Ribs', which Lorde told The Fader is about the unfortunate emphasis people place on her age and the shock when they find out she's so young.
Lorde recently told MTV, "A big stress for me is getting old. I'm in an industry where so much importance is placed on the fact that I'm 16." Former teen singer JoJo can probably relate. After having to fight her label for the right to make her own music, JoJo eventually sued them for "irreparable damages to her professional career." Lorde is obviously aware of the pitfalls facing young pop stars and if she can keep those wits about her through this explosion of fame, by jove she just might have a chance.
