Description
Having birthed the legendary Trash night, the first place in London that really gave dance music to indie kids, Erol Alkan helped educate a whole generation of club goers through his cross pollinated, genre spanning DJ sets. Still held in a deserved high regard as a result of this timeless influence, his remixes and production work also stated a heavy claim to his wider musical knowledge, outside of the DJ booth, with production credits to his name for bands like Mystery Jets, Late of the Pier and Klaxons. Since playing here in Farringdon for Bugged Out in the early noughties and sporadically for Kill Em All in the years that have followed, he’s since started a record label called Phantasy; a label that FABRICLIVE is proud to be supporting on Friday 2nd September’
“I’ve always had a great time playing fabric; it feels different to other London clubs. Maybe it’s because it’s the only one still standing from the days of when I used to go to Bugged Out/Boutique parties there as a fan – I’ve still not forgotten the energy and brilliance of those nights out and a decade later and fabric have given me the keys to the door and asked myself and Phantasy (my infant record label) to take it over. We will be bringing together many of the artists from our upcoming 3 releases including Boys Noize and I’s collaborative efforts ‘Avalanche’ & ‘Lemonade,’ as well as the tracks remixers and other assorted friends.
In Room One, I will play one of my fabric flavoured club sets where I will attempt to push the venues brilliant sound and lighting rig to its maximum, with techno’s new poster boy Gassefelstien (he remixed our ‘Lemonade’ within an inch of its own life) tasked to close the room afterwards. Opening will be the eagle eared Stopmakingme, a great, forward thinking DJ and part of a group of young, new selectors who are more focused on great records over ego flattering crowd reactions. There will also be a one off, exclusive surprise outside of the already exclusive surprise live guest…
Room Two brings another French talent who is currently turning our minds upside down with his fresh production style, Canblaster, alongside Paul Chambers, who’s ‘Yeah! Techno’ was one of Phantasy Sound’s major hits of last year, and to round it off, we invite Kill Em All’s Filthy Dukes, for whom I often play for when I visit fabric. The final set of the night in this room will be myself and the masterful Dave Taylor, AKA Switch AKA Solid Groove, playing back to back. We did a couple of tracks together; chances are that we’ll play them…
and last and by no means least, DURRR takes over Room Three, where 2 of my fave DJs, Rory Phillips and The Lovely Jonjo, will be joined by Mr Jarvis Cocker. The Pulp frontman provided vocals to Boys Noize and I’s latest single ‘Avalanche’ and he will be playing an early set, so it is absolutely essential you arrive early. We hope we can provide you with a rich musical ride, join us…” – Erol Alkan
