Description

PLAYING THE PIANO

RYUICHI SAKAMOTO CONCERT : 07 OCTOBER 2009 / 20.00 H / HAU 1

As a founding member of the Yellow Magic Orchestra, founded in 1978, Ryuichi Sakamoto, born in Tokyo in 1952, is one of the pioneers of electronic pop music and thus also of techno-culture, which a decade later had its triumphant success all over the world. In a certain way the Yellow Magic Orchestra was the Asian counterpart to Kraftwerk. Ever since this orchestra broke up Sakamoto has given performances in quite diverse contexts. The only constant in his work is the attempt to put seemingly opposing genres and cultural worlds into perspective. Sakamoto partly owes his international fame to the soundtracks he composed for film productions like “The Last Emperor” by Bernardo Bertolucci or most recently “Femme Fatale” by Brian de Palma, some of whom have been Oscar-awarded.

Sakamoto will play a solo-concert at HAU to inaugurate the Asia Pacific Weeks 2009.
