His popularity began to be noticed by 1992 when he released his first solo album, “Fora da Grei”, very well-received by the critics, and considered one of the 10 best releases of its time; however, it really skyrocketed only in 1999, with the release of “Skylab”, and also making several appearances on the Brazilian late night show “Programa do Jô” (Jô’s Show). Together with Jorge Mautner, took part of the project “Benditos Malditos” (Blessed Damneds), making shows around many famous places in Rio de Janeiro. A Rio native, Skylab worked as a civil servant at Brazil's state bank Banco do Brasil before retiring and dedicating himself to music full-time, and has majored Philosophy at Rio de Janeiro Federal University.

Building a solid career on a decalogue of records known as the the "série dos Skylabs" (Skylab series), developed in parallel to side project such as "Skygirls", Rogério then decided to work the next step of his career in a series of trilogies, such as "Trilogia dos Carnavais" (Carnaval Trilogy), "trilogia Skylab & Tragtenberg" (Skylab & Tragtenberg trilogy, developed with musician Lívio Tragtenberg) and "trilogia do Cu" ("Ass trilogy"). He's currently working on "trilogia do Cosmos" (Cosmos trilogy). Its first installment, "Cosmos", was released in October 2020.

With musical influences spanning from stoner rock to samba-jazz, Skylab has explored and experimented in a number of sonorities through his career. Among his associated acts are some of the finest figures among Brazilian underground music, such as Arrigo Barnabé, Fausto Fawcett and Jards Macalé.

Skylab is also the author of poetry book "Debaixo das Rodas de um Automóvel" (Under the Wheels of an Automobile) and "Lulismo Selvagem" (Wild Lulism), a collection of political essays. He mantains a collumn on website Brasil 247 and a blog titled Godard City.
