Biography
The Phat Cat Players began to gain noteriety on the Tom Joyner Morning Show for their song, "Sundress" from their Make It Phat, Baby CD and began climbing Billboard's hip-hop/R&B charts in early spring 2000. This song was fronted by the sexy, smooth spoken word of Coco Brown.
After the radio stations that carried Joyner's show began to get requests for the track, they began to add it to their play lists. When it was discovered that the executive producer of "Sundress" was Oscar Joyner, the son of Tom Joyner, the critics thought that "Sundress" was just a passing and quick to fade one-hit-wonder, but that wasn't the case.
The Phat Cat Players came together in and around Florida A&M and consist of: Slater Thorpe, who plays piano and bass and is a background vocalist. Singer Terra Baker; Chyna Red a rapper, drummer Taurus Lovely, Mark Russell, the violinist, Maria Williams and vocalist/songwriter/producer/educator Adrian Morris.
