Peter Rubin, born Peter Kohlhuber (* 5 May 1942 in Mährisch-Ostrau, Reichsgau Sudetenland, today Czech Republic), is a German singer, presenter, songwriter, and guitarist. Rubin completed a commercial apprenticeship after finishing school. He then studied economics at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. In the 1960s, he founded the band Pemagos with friends. In 1966, his first record, Wieder daheim (Homeward Bound), was released. In 1967, he represented Germany at the International Song Contest in Sopot, Poland. By the late 1960s, he had his first major chart successes in Germany with Hätt ich einmal nur Zeit and Azzurro. In 1973, he released his best-known title, Wir zwei fahren irgendwo hin. Over a career spanning more than 45 years in the Schlager industry, he recorded around 40 singles and a similar number of albums, worked as a songwriter for other artists, hosted various radio shows, and regularly appeared on well-known music television programmes. Together with Freddy Breck and Cindy & Bert, he released the albums Frohe Weihnachten in 1974 and Schöne Ferien in 1976.
Due to his height of two metres, he was early on referred to as "Germany's tallest Schlager singer." He also released Schlager songs about this theme, such as Immer Ärger mit dem Bett and XXL. He also gained some recognition as an operetta singer. In 1970, he participated in the German Schlager Contest with the song Zuerst kommt meine Liebe (dann Napoleon).
In the 1980s, he took a break from long tours and primarily worked as a presenter for the radio stations Südwestfunk and Bayerischer Rundfunk. At the latter, he co-hosted the "Telefon-Wunschkonzert" on a weekly rotation with Klaus Havenstein, Ruth Kappelsberger, and Walter Föhringer until the programme's reform in 1996.
Peter Rubin lives with his family in Stockdorf near Munich and has a recording studio in his home.
