Biography
CJ Burken is the end result of a rich and diverse musical upbringing that started with his mother who introduced him to jazz, classical, latin and world music at an early age. While in college in Miami Beach, Florida in 1988 he got his masters degree in computer science and sociology. He also got something else: one of those unshakeable diseases that would change his life for ever.
The thriving and nascent underground club scene of miami beach of the late 80's, early 90's, the loyalty of the club devotees, their near religious view of house music as an elixir, the freedom and emotional abandonment of the underground scene, all contributed to deeply and profoundly shape CJ's musical background, understanding and appreciation of the genre.
In 1994, a chance encounter with a then young up-and-coming DJ in the area named 'The Undah-Dub' would mark the beginning of CJ's move from in front of the DJ booth to behind the decks and the mixing console. One night, filling in for The Undah-Dub at a local after-hours spot in Miami Beach, CJ's deep and emotionally charged house set left the audience spent.
CJ quickly carved a following and a reputation for himself with his deep and soulful tech house sets always punctuated by hints of jazz and soul. Production work soon followed where CJ again was able to combine his diverse musical influence and his love for deep soul house into memorable and well-received remixes.
CJ Burken is steadily moving ahead with a renewed confidence and a deep need to continue polishing his craft and refine his musical productions.
