The Tonight Show Band (billed as "The NBC Orchestra" or "Doc Severinsen and the NBC Orchestra" on the show) was the big band which played on the Tonight Show (starring Johnny Carson). Doc Severinsen joined the band on trumpet while it was under the direction of Skitch Henderson, and became its director himself in 1967. Severinsen continued to lead the band until 1992, when the new format (with Jay Leno) included a smaller band. View wiki
