Tasha & Tracie are a Brazilian hip hop duo composed of twin sisters Tasha and Tracie Okereke.
Born in Jardim Peri, a neighborhood in the north of São Paulo, they are the daughters of a Brazilian mother and a Nigerian father. The twins drew attention on the internet and in the fashion world for creating stylish looks with thrift store pieces and customization.
It all started with a blog, Expensive $hit, which ended up becoming a movement that uses fashion, art and music to strengthen the self-esteem of black women from the periphery. It didn't take long for international recognition to come. In 2015, they were the first Brazilians to appear on the Afropunk portal and, in 2016, they made a documentary for the British magazine i-D.
The sisters also act as DJs and like to invest more and more in parties in their own neighborhood. "It's our decentralization project. It takes us two hours to go to a party downtown, so why don't people take the same amount of time to come here?", they justify.
