Guildford, United Kingdom (2003 – present)

Nick Douwma a.k.a. Sub Focus came to the DnB scene from Guildford, UK in 2003, and broke through with a number of tracks in his first year including “Acid Test”, and “X-Ray”. Entirely self taught, he was noticed at first by Andy C and, in a matter of months, went from being one of many wannabe producers to becoming a permanent fixture of the award winning RAM Records family.

Recent releases on Ram Records include tunes such as “Airplane”, “Flamenco”, “Juno” and “Swamp Thing”.

His latest release was his first and self titled album, which came out on October the 12th 2009. In mid-2010 he toured with Pendulum, performing a stage show warm-up to their live act.

EXIT Festival / Main Stage / Sunday, July 13 Sunday also sees the mighty SUB FOCUS return to EXIT. Last spotted destroying the Petrovaradin Fortress in 2012, he’s continued to develop on his impeccable profile with more genre-melting fusions. Most recently on his second album Torus. Transcending the limits of bass music by creating era-defining anthems, his DJ sets are both blisteringly technical and vibrantly eclectic. No one does it quite like Sub Focus!

The show was less amazing as I hoped. The ultra Mix was awesome but the melkweg show was too mellow.

Oh dear what happened? Saw Sub at the Round House last night and it was worse than X factor! His music resembles nothing more than cheap, empty pop music now, such a shame really as his earlier tunes smashed it. I suppose that's what happens when you sell out!

New album feels like cheap concrete. A little bit from this, a little bit from that... And an average result that falls apart pretty quickly. I really can't stand most of it - even though Tidal Wave and Out of the Blue are nice.
