Purple is a progressive rock solo instrumental project by multi-instrumentalist Dan Hodgson. Official Website
Dan was born in Bangor, Wales in 1965 and has been making music and recording in various formats since his teens. The styles of bands he has played in include rock, soul, jazz, psychedelic, dark ambient, worship, gospel, ceilidh (celtic folk) and African drumming. His main instrument is electric bass but he also plays guitars, drums, hand percussion and messes about with several others. His influences are wide and eclectic, but especially include progressive rock, “adult” rock and celtic folk.
Dan records as a solo artist under several names, in order to keep the stylistic “brands” seperate. “Purple” is a deliberate throwback to the progressive rock era and is influenced heavily by Mike Oldfield’s Tubular Bells, Pink Floyd, Yes etc, blending complex rythmns and harmonies in music on an epic scale.
