Michael Lawrence Tyler (born September 22, 1970 in New Orleans, Louisiana), better known by his stage name Mystikal, is a Grammy award nominated American rapper and actor. He released his self-titled debut album in 1994 and has since released 1996’s Mind of Mystikal, 1997’s Unpredictable, 1998’s Ghetto Fabulous, 2000’s Let’s Get Ready and 2001’s Tarantula. In 2003, Mystikal pled guilty to sexual battery, and was released on January 14, 2010 after serving a six year sentence. He has plans to return to recording music and possibly release a new album sometime in 2010. He is one of many artists from Master P’s No Limit Records to achieve both critical and commercial success.

Michael Tyler went to Cohen High School in New Orleans. Later he would go on to be in the Army and serve as a Meal, Ready-to-Eat supply clerk assigned to a stateside support unit.

His debut album was Mystikal, released on the indie label Big Boy Records in 1995. He signed to Jive Records to release Mind of Mystikal in 1996. The album sold well, and he signed to Master P’s No Limit Records for Unpredictable in 1997. The album sold well, and garnered him critical praise, though his real breakthrough was Let’s Get Ready released in 2000, led by The Neptunes-produced hit “Shake Ya Ass,” and the only slightly-less-successful single “Danger (Been So Long),” which featured rising pop star Nivea. It debuted at Number One on the Billboard 200, making it his only chart-topper to date.

    I don't condone rape. When I say he deserves acknowledgement, I don't mean he deserves respect or sympathy - I'm saying that he didn't get off scot-free... Maybe I should have worded it better, but I'm not sympathising with him. Anyone would be a little non-plussed with that death penalty comment after they're supposedly being lectured about justice and cosying up to a sex offender... 'Racist sympathisers would think that'... Keep your quite clearly outspoken ish out of my way... In your view, I’m either ignorance personified or have dug a hole I’m unable to get myself out of ethically (probably both really). In any case, I bet you couldn’t resist posting what you did…

    agree that it probably should have been a longer sentence but that's not going to make me hate Mystikal or automatically label him a 'rapist shit', especially since I obviously have an affinity towards his music - not that this should be an excuse but I can hardly avoid it. If you think he skived off with 6 years then you obviously have (or at least think you have) more insight into the incident than I do. I'm simply saying he deserves acknowledgement for serving the time he did and bringing up the fact that he's a registered sex offender umpteen times pollutes shuotboxes like these (it seems to be one of the main reasons why people leave shouts here in the first place) and this a music site first and foremost... I'm also not trying to sympathise with Mystikal and that execution comment is dodgy.     SimonePerrota: he did 6 years, so everyone must forget mystikal is a rapist shit. / BuddieLove: if you threaten someone to get sex, that's rape. no amount of male-centric equivocation, euphemisms and rationalisations changes that. it was all on tape. which is why mystikal's lawyer had it disqualified as evidence in exchange for a plea bargain, otherwise he'd be serving life. / they should execute rapists and their sympathisers.
