Seattle, United States (1986 – present)

Kenneth Bruce Gorelick (born June 5, 1956 in Seattle, WA), better known by his stage name Kenny G, is a Grammy winning American saxophonist. His fourth album, Duotones, brought him breakthrough success in 1986. Kenny G’s main instrument is the soprano saxophone, but he also on occasion plays alto and tenor saxophone. He started playing the saxophone when he was 10 years old, in 1966.

Kenny G has long been the musician many listeners love to hate. A phenomenally successful instrumentalist whose recordings make the charts, Kenny G’s sound has been a staple on adult and radio stations since the mid-‘, making him a household name. Kenny G is a fine player with an attractive sound (influenced a bit by Grover Washington, Jr.) who often caresses melodies, putting a lot of emotion into his solos. Because he does not improvise much (sticking mostly to predictable melody statements), his music largely falls outside of . However, because he is listed at the top of “” charts and is identified with in the minds of the mass public, he is classified as a artist.

@ OnanismMonthly "the death of jazz" Really? Smooth jazz almost exterminates anything in the jazz genre. (relaxing-enjoyable wise). And actually, Kenny G is much more enjoyable than that druggie Coltrane. Chill out and enjoy.

What are you "jazz freaks" screaming here for? Yea, this isn't that real jazz music that was made in the early days, 50's, 60's and so on. For me this is that smooth sax music with smooth instruments you can relax to. I don't consider Kenny G as jazz, well maybe some "smooth sax jazz" but still. Overall, Kenny's music is awesome and i enjoy it. So lets enjoy this music people. Propz to Kenny!

this is definitely not jazz, but 80's groove or synthesized jazz-funk that you can name it concerning his first 3 albums were produced by Jeff Lorber, Kashif and Paul Laurence. thereafter he began or he might have been forced to focus on the smooth sax shit as being condemned to be forgotten. while his funkiest moment has always been 'Stop n Go' off his first album (thanks to Mr. Lorber again) , his Breathless album is simply dreadful in every note...

He said once that he is not going to play jazz but instrumental version of pop music. And this is fair enough. But still his music is quite monotonous, uninspiring... However such statements as "I hate this douchebag destroyed jazz in the early 90s. " amuses me :D

All the haters that come onto his music page (someone that you're NOT a fan of) just for the sake of trolling definitely needs to get lives. Other than music snobs, who really cares if he classifies as "jazz" or not? I certainly don't.

Apparently Kenny G isn't punk rock enough for some people. Maybe if he had a brutish, unfeeling, tough guy attitude, they'd reconsider his music having "no soul"? It's amazing how severely people project themselves... [warrants a repost]
