Jesse “The Devil” Hughes (born 1972) is an American musician from Greenville, South Carolina. Hughes is band-leader of California-based garage rock band, Eagles of Death Metal. He is often nicknamed “Boots Electric” or “Fabulous Weapon”.

Hughes graduated from the University of South Carolina and was a teacher before forming Eagles of Death Metal. He considers rocking out as the frontman of EofDM as “It’s rock n’ roll lottery fantasy stuff.”

Hughes is known to have an extremely positive stage-presence. While performing, he will often dance and interact with the crowd. Between songs he will talk to the fans and often make sure that everyone is having a good time.

Good friends with Joshua Homme since high school.
“I Only Want You” was the first song he wrote for Peace, Love, Death Metal and the rest soon followed “in like a week.” First job was at McDonald’s. Some of his friends include Dave Grohl, Jack Black, and Peaches A fan of the Washington state band, The Sonics. Has praised their album “Here Are the Sonics” in interviews. Recorded a two-song ep called, “A Pair of Queens.” The ep featured Hughes doing covers of the Queen of the Stone Age songs “Go with the Flow” and “Gonna Leave You.” Release was available on vinyl. Very gracious to his fans, often sends emails, photos, and even homemade shirts to very dedicated fans. Believes the pioneering punk band The Damned belong in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
