At aged 17 the quartet's expansive, intricate and epic sound juxtaposes the thoughtful, introspective lyrical content, bringing a fresh sound to the London music scene. The dynamic music pulls and pushes the listener into unexpected territories; full of breaks, time changes, climax and resolve.
Hella Better Dancer formed at London's legendary Roundhouse Music Venue in 2007 after winning the Battle of the Bands competition. The line up consists of electric guitars, vocals, bass and drums.
In terms of influences the band draws inspiration from Arcade Fire, Yo La Tengo and Broken Social Scene: as much for their unity as a band as for integrity of the music they create.
In 2009 the band went from strength to strength - performing at the Big Chill Festival and the Emerging Proms Festival as well as recording their debut single, Hands.
2010 saw Hella Better Dancer sign to independent label Roundhouse Records, the first of its kind in the UK. In July 2010 Hella better Dancer released their debut EP, recording with Kevin Paul, whose credits include David Bowie, Depeche Mode and Nick Cave. They premiered their EP as part of the 2010 iTunes Festival, filmed by Live Nation for ITV television.
Hella Better Dancer are ambitious to grow and gain success without losing that vital connection to their ever-growing fanbase. With drive, strength and a desire to produce important and profound music, the future is looking promising for Hella Better Dancer.
