Biography
In 1999 Marco Calvo met Carlos Ruiz in a Club in Madrid and gave him a tape with 3 songs he wrote under the name DIOXYDE to check his opinion as reputated EBM DJ. Carlos was impressed and not much later he even joined the band, helping on the production and playing live keyboards at live shows.
In 2000 Johan Van Roy from Suicide Commando discovered the band and immediately offered them a spot on the “deCODEr 1” compilation released on COde, a small tape/cd label Johan set up shortly before.
In 2002 Dioxyde signed to the german label Dying Culture, who released the band’s debut album “Torschlüsspanik”.
This album got really good response from both audience and media, with very high scores in reviews from de most important magazines and webzines of the Electro scene. The album sold out pretty soon.
At the end of 2003 Carlos left the band and was replaced by Koke (Jorge Bibiano).
In the beginning on 2004 Dying Culture dissolved and while Marco was in talks with different labels for releasing his second album, he suffered a terrible motorbike accident that got him several months in hospital. Three weeks before the accident Dioxyde had played for the first time at the Wave-Gotik-Treffen Festival in Germany.
It took Marco several months to recover from this terrible crash (and even today he’s still waiting for a shoulder operation).
But now Marco’s finally back from hell and putting the last hand on his long awaited new album “Social Phobia” which was released on Noise Terror Productions in Spring 2006!
