Although he founded Mute with the intention of releasing his own music when he was working as a film editor in 1978, he eventually shifted his focus to producing other Mute records acts (Fad Gadget, Yazoo, and Depeche Mode). Mute Records is a record label formed in 1978 by Daniel Miller primarily to release his own single, T.V.O.D./Warm Leatherette, under the moniker The Normal.
