Biography

Paris, France (1994 – present)

Daft Punk is a multi Grammy Award-winning music duo formed in 1994 in Paris, France, and consisting of French musicians Thomas Bangalter (born 3 January 1975) and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo (born 8 February 1974). The band is considered one of the most successful electronic music collaborations of all time, both in album sales and in critical acclaim.

Daft Punk reached significant popularity in the late movement in France, along with other artists such as Air, Cassius, and Dimitri from Paris. Daft Punk are credited with producing songs that were considered essential in the French house scene. They were managed from 1996 to 2008 by Pedro Winter (Busy P), the head of Ed Banger Records.

The group released four studio albums: Homework (1997), Discovery (2001), Human After All (2005), and Random Access Memories (2013). They also released the soundtrack album TRON: Legacy (2010); the live albums Alive 1997 (2002), Alive 2007 (2007); the compilation Musique Vol. 1 1993–2005 (2006); the remix albums Daft Club (2003), Human After All: Remixes (2006), TRON: Legacy Reconfigured (2011).

Early years (1987–1993)

Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo met in 1987 on the grounds of the Lycée Carnot, a secondary school in Paris. The two became good friends and later recorded demo tracks with others from the school. This eventually led to the formation of the guitar-based group Darlin’ with Laurent Brancowitz in 1992.

yeah, who takes pitchfork that seriously? i guess if you listen to wimpy hipster twee bands. this new daft punk isn't horrible, but it has 'chic' written allll over it. Nile Rodgers carrying the weight of the song, certainly not a bad thing. also saw a much deserved giorgio moroder name drop in the track listings

8.8? I guess they had to make up for the shit reviews they've given every other Daft Punk album.

& oh yeah, remember what score pitchfork rewarded daft punk's "fun" approach, back before their albums had massive cleverly-designed marketing campaigns and social-media hypestorms behind them? yeah, they gave out low scores. what remarkable, objective, critical journalism.

as if a pitchfork score or a major review site means a fucking thing. please. all those sites are bought and sold by major label money. all the writers and staff need to be on good terms with the right label managers, a&r's, pr gurus etc. to still get their advance copies and their exclusive guestlist invites to trendy music-biz events. a pitchfork review doesn't validate anything, except that the label paid enough money and put enough effort into the hype-campaign for some dutiful twee cunt to spit out some arbitrary numerical figure and a 'best new music' tag. i've seen lichen samples that have stronger opinions than you lot.

I feel bad for people who have to be given a simple yay or nay before they buy anything. Who cares if it's 8.8 or 8.7, at the end of the day, I don't believe complex opinions can be represented numerically, it's just like a tag for illiterate people who can't take the time to finish reading an article and instead want a quick answer. It's a shame that such reviews exist, because people are so easily lead they won't take the time to find out about it themselves and instead skip it altogether because a review told them so.

I found each time the new album a bit worse than previous: *1*- homework: audacious , but not always easy to listen *2*- discovery: way too cheesy (i.e unauthentic & trying too hard to please) , but ok *3*- human after all: cheesy and unimaginative (i.e previous album was much more varied). *4*- Ram: too much vocoder to sweeten everything, omg, I must be on drug to appreciate this. However the guitar on the back is impressive.

Yes , for sure Daft Punk paid pitchfork million of dollars because the album wouldn't have sold nothing without them. Some people are so stupid it hurts

also, i'm convinced they only gave it an 8.8 just because they didn't really like it that much but Sony paid them 12 trillion dollars to review it so they wanted to give it a score that they knew nobody would care about
