Biography

Dj Sprinkles aka Terre Thaemlitz is an award winning multi-media producer, writer, public speaker, educator, audio remixer, DJ and owner of the Comatonse Recordings record label. His work critically combines themes of identity politics - including gender, sexuality, class, linguistics, ethnicity and race - with an ongoing critique of the socio-economics of commercial media production. This diversity of themes is matched by Thaemlitz’ wide range of production styles, which include electroacoustic computer music, club oriented deep house, digital jazz, ambient, and computer composed neo-expressionist piano solos. Accordingly, his audio projects have found release on an eclectic variety of record labels ranging from the Deleuze-influenced label , to Yellow Magic Orchestra founder Haruomi Hosono’s Daisyworld Discs, to Bill Laswell’s Subharmonic Records, to Universal Music Germany’s Classical Division, to the UK dance label Disorient, and so on. Graphic design, photography, illustration, text and video also play an important part in Thaemlitz’ projects. His writings on music and culture have been published internationally in a number of books, academic journals and magazines. As a speaker and educator on issues of non-essentialist transgenderism and pansexual Queer sexuality, Thaemlitz has participated in panel discussions throughout Europe and Japan, as well as held numerous cross-cultural sensitivity workshops at Tokyo’s Uplink Factory, near his current residence in Kawasaki, Japan.

Why leave a shout saying you detest something? Seems unnecessary and harsh, just go and listen to something "better" then. DJ Sprinkles is great so please don't be put off by the negativity below.

Not sure if the best album, but surely the best intro I've ever heard.

This represents a glance back to the old-school roots not only of house, but EDM as a whole. An album, music, must have a concept, an idea and any many of us have forgotten (most of us never even knew), what the intention of house-music was back in the early 80s when it was first made. It's not only about the music in "Midtown 120 Blues", it's about the larger concept that Terre is trying to show us, all of this swept in a beautiful sheet of deep, atmospheric house-music. It's not only an album, it's not only music, it's a trip, it's a tale of how life is for some people in the world with ambient music to accompany it. Bravo Terre!
