Colin Towns is an Englishman who has collaborated on this set of work with the NDR Big Band. The NDR Big Band is a German ensemble, many of whom were in the Ensemble Modern, who Zappa fans will know worked on Frank's Yellow Shark project.
This project is equally loving and painstaking in the rendition of Frank's work. Never one to suffer fools gladly, he rated his time with the EM as one of his best, professionally.
The versions on this CD are a mix of updated jazz renditions and relatively faithful note for note copies (Who would mess much with Water melon in Easter Hay?) interspersed with the odd wacky version which harks back to Freak Out! Hunt out the CD, its worth it.
