Cal Tjader

Cal Tjader (July 16, 1925–May 5, 1982) was an American Latin jazz musician. Unlike other American jazz musicians who experimented with the music from Cuba, the Caribbean, and Latin America, he never abandoned it, performing it until his death.

Tjader (pronounced “chay-der”) primarily played the vibraphone. He was also accomplished on the drums, bongos, congas, timpani, and the piano. He worked with numerous musicians from several cultures. He is often linked to the development of Latin rock and acid jazz. Although fusing jazz with Latin music is often categorized as “Latin jazz” (or, earlier, “Afro-Cuban jazz”), Tjader’s output swung freely between both styles.

Cal Tjader is so exquisite. He had a very fine touch for the vibes. Swedish by the name, Latin by the heart.

Впервые услышал его композицию "Los bandidos (Michael Reinboth)" на сборнике "Future Sounds of Jazz - Vol. 10" (Compost). Через пару лет случайно попался его альбом "Along Comes Cal" (1967 г.) с этим произведением. Годы его не старят. Спасибо Compost ' у за привитие отличного чувство вкуса и стиля. (2010 год)

Who'd have guessed that a Swedish dude like Cal could dig Latin music so much? Then again, I think that's part of the Tjader charm...his vibraphone adds that perfect touch of icy cool to contrast with the heat, like a nicely chilled cocktail on a hot summer night.

I've loved Cal Tjader's music ever since I was a little kid. My father is a big fan of jazz music -- and for some reason, the two records in his rather extensive collection which appealed to me the most were "Soul Sauce" and "Breeze From The East" To this day, "Sake And Greens" (from "Breeze From The East") is one of the songs I almost always turn to when I need to chill out a little. Wherever you are, Cal...thank you.
