Tromsø, Norway

Biosphere is the main recording name of Geir Jenssen (born 1962 in Tromsø, Norway), a musician who has released a notable catalog of ambient electronic music. He is well known for his “” then “” styles, and his use of music loops and peculiar samples from sci-fi sources. His track “Novelty Waves” was used for the 1995 Levi’s ad campaign. His 1997 album Substrata is generally seen as one of the all-time classic ambient albums. Before launching Biosphere, Jenssen was a member of the Norwegian dream pop band Bel Canto. Bel Canto released records on the Belgium-based label Crammed Discs.

Some tracks are freely downloadable on Biosphere’s website.

Biosphere released new track, 10min long Das Subharchord. It was recorded on famous german synthesizer, which typical sound had huge impact on 'elektronische musik' back in 1950'. Nonetheless it's much more than only interesting historical curiosity, especially in the second part of a track.

as much as I love Substrata, there is something about Microgravity that I cannot find in any other album and it keeps me coming back to it.

Circular Path is the standout track for me. Interesting to see a few tracks with drum beats in them as well.
