Composer / producer, best known for his ‘VoizNoiz 1, Urban sound scapes’.
Besides acoustic instruments, Banabila uses found objects, electronics, field recordings, shortwave /tv/ film recordings, and vocoder-plugs. His recordings can often be discribed as cinematic and atmospheric.
Banabila has composed musical scores for numerous films, documentaries, video art, theatre plays and choreographies.
In 2000, Banabila produced ‘Arhil’, the critically acclaimed debut album from Moroccan singer ‘Ali Bahia El Idrissi’, (Boudisque recordings). On the same label Banabila released his 2 electronic dark-ambient works ; ‘Spherics, part 1 & 2’. (Boudisque recordings)
In 2001 Banabila joined Holger Czukay’s internet collabs for the track ‘10 Steps to heaven’ on the cd Linear city (InsideOut Music).
In 2003 Banabila received the prestigious Dutch Edison Jazz Award for the cd ‘VoizNoiz 3, Urban jazz scapes’, with trumpet-player Eric Vloeimans (Challenge Records / JJ tracks). In 2005 he worked with Orkater for the score of ‘Eiland’, a music theatre play, and did recordings in South Africa for ‘Vuka vuka’ an open air theatre tour by het Waterhuis about homeless kids.
The abums VoizNoiz 1 en 2 Spherics 1 were also released on Tone Casualties (L.A.) and Pork recordings (Hull/London). In 2007 Banabila made the soundtrack for the documentary ‘Satellite queens’, by Bregtje van der Haak (VPRO) about the talkshow Kalam Nawaem, and the soundtrack of ‘Huiskameronweer’ (theatre play) by Orkater.
