Biography

Ancestor Croll began as a duo of two brothers, Caleb and Seth Griffin. The brothers are expatriate South Africans who currently reside in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Explains Caleb, "Seth was coming up with these interesting new songs, so we started messing around with tunes and lyrics. I didn't play any instruments at the time so it was just Seth on guitar and me singing…it sounded really thin. We needed a bass player. I decided to buy a bass guitar and that was really the start of Ancestor Croll."

The band began looking for drummers and eventually invited high school friend, Rafael Garcia, to drum for them. They played their first gig at Kilby Court, Salt Lake City; opening for the New York Indy band Neon Indian. Rafael left the band a few months after the show in order to focus on his work and personal life. The band used several different drummers over the course of 2010. They recruited multiple fill-ins to play live. Near the end of the year they began practicing with Michael Ballstaedt, a long time friend of the brothers.

In February, 2011, Michael rejoined the band permanently. Since then, they have recorded their self-titled LP, and played in multiple states across the Western United States. Seth received the "Best of Utah Young Composers Award" for his single, "Sea Story", from the National Composers Guild and the band's music has received online radio play and world-wide recognition. They are currently touring and working on their second studio album.
