Amaia Montero Saldías (born August 26, 1976 in Irun, Gipuzkoa) is a Spanish singer and song writer.
She was the vocalist of the group La Oreja De Van Gogh, which obtained great hits and has earned fame at the Iberoamerican level.
She started studying Chemistry in the UPV/EHU where she met the rest of the members of the band, but when the band became famous she started studying Psychology at the UNED. Just like the rest of the group, she later stopped studying.
On November 19th, 2007, Amaia announced her departure from the group and the start of her new solo career. Her first solo album, Amaia Montero is due nearly a year after that hard decision to leave the group, November 18th, 2008. The new album contains 11 never before released tracks, one of which has been dedicated to her ex-group members of La Oreja De Van Gogh.
On October 4th, the 1st singleQuiero Ser was released.

A ver señores, hablemos claro, soy fanático de la señora Montero y de LOVG. Cuándo Amaia decidió salirse decidí a apoyar a los dos. Punto uno aclarado. Segundo, tiene unas grandes canciones como "Donde Estabas", es un buen powerpop, también me gusta bastante "Cuestión de Suerte" y "Hasta Siempre Compañero" a mi parecer es ahí dónde si es Amaia Montero, la anterior que cantaba con tanto sentimiento que te hacía erizar la piel. Las demás canciones se me hacen tan iguales por que son lentas pero sigo diciendo que "Amaia Montero" es mejor disco, es más movido, lo siento aún más sincero. Otro punto aclarando de una vez, yo nunca entré a comparar "Cometas Por El Cielo" y "2" porque ya sabía lo que iba a pasar, yo ya acepté que Amaia está fuera y que LOVG hacen sus cosas, los mejores deseos, a apoyar a los dos y disfrutar la música pero "2" es un buen álbum pero no mejor que "Amaia Montero", creo que hay libertad de expresión y la hago valer ¿o no?
