Adrian Borland (December 6, 1957 – April 26, 1999) was an English singer, songwriter, guitarist and record producer.

Born in London, England, he is probably best known as the lead singer and main songwriter of The Sound. Prior to his involvement with The Sound, Borland was a part of the seminal punk trio The Outsiders. The latter became the first English punk band to release an album by themselves, 1977’s Calling On Youth. Subsequent to The Sound’s disbandment in 1987, Borland commenced a solo career. It would eventually prove to be extensive, spanning over seven full-length albums (some of which were released posthumously) and several EP’s.

On April 26th, 1999, Adrian Borland committed suicide in London, England by throwing himself underneath a train. He was at the time recording a new album. Following Borland’s untimely death, a tribute album was released in 2001 - In Passing - A Tribute To Adrian Borland And The Sound.
