AWOL ONE, born Anthony Martin in East L.A. California,
was born like any other kid…in a manger. His father, Portuguese, and his mother ,Irish, grew up poor on the east coast and moved to California where they met and conceived a little walrus. The walrus grew to love music and knew that he would do it forever, now in his early 30’s he feels that he has recorded his best album yet, the upcoming Fake Four release “Owl Hours”.

While touring through Canada a few years ago Awol met the Producer/DJ named Factor and began building a friendship and working relationship from there. In 2007 the duo of Awol One and Factor released “Only Death Can Kill You”, a mellow hip hop record full of Awol’s perfectly simple yet clever self analyzing lyrics and characteristic gruff voice over Factor’s melodic and precisely crafted production. Over two years later they are releasing a completely different album - Owl Hours - what some would perceive as Awol and Factor’s attempt at a “party album”. Instrumentals move from Electronic Pop to Folk Hop with a number live musicians contributing their talents. Topics range from curious celebrations, to nostalgic odes to former loves to straight up drunken party anthems all told through the eccentric eyes of Walrus One. Guest vocalists on “Owl Hours” (including Aesop Rock, Myka 9, Tha Alkaholiks and executive producer Xzibit) all seem inspired and come off strong as ever over Factor’s catchy, hard hitting beats.

The new album is streaming on myspace now and sounds fantaboulous...!! He played a show here in Reading with 2mex and the Drunken Immortals and there was barely anyone there, but it was still a decent show.

Damn this guy is awesome! Played a show for the attractive price of $5 here. I didnt even realize it was him I was talking to at the merch booth for a while. He gave me his new CD Owl Hours. Its great. So much effort put into the production with many well known guests. Its one of his best to date. Talked with him for a while about music and bought him a shot. Such a cool guy.

Awol One isn't christian rap, far from it and he's also not a f*ckin gay ass juggalo. He's a member of the Shapeshifters (L.A. Shapeshifters) He's a cool guy too, met him at shows and around cali. He's never too busy to stop and talk to a fan. Especially if you have some smoke to share with him haha.

i cant believe that the only track that's enjoyed hereabouts is "rhythm" ... its a great track (i love it too..) i believe that represents the entire hip hop culture! but AWOL has more stuff to say than a simple track! if you don't understand the psychedelic aspects of life its ok! but please don't diss this without putting a reasonable argument! i mean no offense... :)

Do people seriously enjoy listening to this guy? I'm open to different styles of hip hop but AWOL is plain horrible.
