Krautrock, soundscape, minimalism. A best-of compilation of A Slow Rip's last three years of work, drawn from seven of their self-made CD-R albums, released by Endgame Records in late 2008. Originally derived from group improvisations, pieces were later composed from the material and mixed by the group. Some pieces are harsher, glitchier and clunkier; some are lighter and more ambient/drone-based. All have a subtlety, musicality and warmth to them. A Slow Rip are a three-piece from the northern beaches of Wollongong who use group improvisations to create ambient dronescape pieces. Their combined influences take in ambient electronic, prog rock, drone, krautrock, jazz, and post-punk. Phil Turnbull, Ian Miles and Rob Laurie are analog-based – they use analog and virtual analog synths, ‘prepared’ guitar, wind instruments and vocal tones and noises, immersed in delay, and recorded to tape.
