South Korea

폐허 (Pyha) is an ambient black metal band from South Korea. There is a lack of information in the western world, including the translation of the name itself. Debut album, 흉가, was released in 2002, and re-released with 3 new tracks in 2008. The next release was 맞불놀이, released in April 2011.

Brief update on my previous post: 밤섬해적단 broke up / morphed into 삼풍 (Sampoong), who play a blend of sludge and noise; debut album/demo(?) coming out maybe spring 2013. Dude is playing drums in Dokkaebi Assault, but the performance I mentioned with Find The Spot was a one-off filling in for their regular bassist. He also told me at a show last month that he used to play bass for Sad Legend as a live session member.

Close... it's Ruined. This dude is also in 밤섬해적단 (Bamseom Pirates), a bass-and-drums grind rock band... he's also recently performed live with Dokkaebi Assault (d-beat) and Find The Spot (hardcore punk) though I'm not sure if he's a full-time member of either of those bands.

I wonder why his name is transliterated as Pyha. The way it is written it should be Pyeheo.

Oh and even after years of listening to it, 나그네의 세월 still sends shivers down my spine! Truly remarkable.

He was 'some teenager' at the time of recording his first demo. It was recorded several years ago so I doubt hes still a teen :P.
