The male choir of the Moscow Sretensky Monastery claims to have existed since the foundation of the monastery in 1397. In 2005, with the blessing of Archimandrite Tikhon (Shevkunov), the choir was led by the current choir director, Nikon Stepanovich Zhila, a graduate of the Russian Academy of Music. Gnesinykh, the son of a priest, who since childhood sang in the church choir of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra.

The basis of the choir is seminarians, students of the Sretensky Seminary and graduates of the Moscow Theological Seminary and Academy. An equally important part of the composition of the team are vocalists from the Moscow Academy of Choral Art, the Moscow Conservatory, the Academy of Music. Gnesins. The choir consists of 28 people. The team has first-class soloists: Dmitry Beloselsky, Mikhail Miller, Mikhail Turkin, Ivan Skrylnikov, Pyotr Gudkov, Alexander Korogod, Alexei Tatarintsev. In addition, the choir has its own composers and arrangers: Fedor Stepanov, Alexander Amerkhanov, Andrey Poltorukhin, Roman Maslennikov.

In addition to regular services at the Sretensky Monastery, the choir sings at especially solemn patriarchal services in the Moscow Kremlin, participates in international music competitions and missionary trips of the Russian Orthodox Church.
The repertoire of the choir includes spiritual music, Russian, Ukrainian and Cossack folk songs, romances, songs of the war years. All compositions are performed by the Sretensky Choir in original arrangements a cappella.

The men's choir of the Sretensky Monastery has already released several discs, which include Russian folk songs: "Wonderful Liberty", "Lenten Works", "Favorite Songs. A Gift for Friends".
