Biography
Älymystö (Intelligentsia) was formed in the winter of 2002, when messrs. Haapanen and Vuorensola first had a vision of dark industrial music unlimited by genres. They wound up in a small studio in the basement of a yardshed.
The band’s first internet releases garnered interest in Helsinki, but Älymystö did not really become a part of Finland’s underground scene before exiting the studio and taking the stage. Over the next few years Älymystö released a few EP’s worth of new material and toured both in Finland and in the Baltic countries. At the same time the band kicked off their club, Vainohulluus, which has brought a number of important industrial acts to Finland, including Scorn and In Slaughter Natives, in addition to promoting some of the country’s finest industrial and avantgarde bands. On 2004 the band published their first EP, Ontto seurakunta.
At the end of 2004 Älymystö returned from their first Baltic tour and began to compose and record their first full length album, Atomgrad, which was published in 2005. The band has continued touring in Finland, Baltics and in Russia. Älymystö then published a spit-vinyl project (released April 2009) with And Then You Die on Skithund Records called 19:38:00.
