Superfood

Birmingham quartet Superfood released their much-anticipated debut album Don’t Say That on 3rd November through Infectious Music, hailed by NME as “an album that turns mundane everyday experiences into dreamy, surreal highs”.

Originally touted as heralding a re-birth of cheeky, choppy indie guitar pop, Superfood dug deeper to record an album that’s energy, warmth, and wit was infectious, but ultimately displayed a far more powerful resonance than any of their early reference points would have alluded to.

The Midlands four-piece travelled well over the past twelve months too, taking to the road alongside Wolf Alice and We Are Scientists, and interspersing it with numerous sold-out shows across the UK of their own. Autumn 2014 saw the four-piece head out on the ever-successful NME New Breed Tour with Honeyblood, following previous supports with the likes of Peace, slots at Glastonbury and and their own sell out headline show at The Rainbow.

A night out at the NME Awards in February will see Superfood nominated for Best New Band, in a category that pits them against the likes of Royal Blood, FKA Twigs, and Jungle. This young band have established themselves as one of Britain’s most exciting breaking acts, but despite all they’ve quickly achieved, it’s evident that their journey has only just begun.

Yak

New London-based trio Yak have only just posted their first official video for their debut single ‘Hungry Heart’ (set for release on Fat Possum next month), which Q Magazine describe as “Ace noise-rock recalling Spacemen 3” yet they are already looking to be this year’s ‘Next Big Thing’.

Having already supported the likes of Peace and Palma Violets, the indie three-piece now take to the road with Superfood.

Black Honey

Black Honey are fast becoming one of the most talked about guitar bands of 2014. Starting out shrouded in mystery the band let the music do the talking, there were no photos, only their TV themed artwork to accompany each track they released. Further adding to the intrigue, instead of issuing a standard press release the band invited fans to text them directly if they wanted to find out more.

After dreamy opener ‘Sleep Forever’, 60’s psychedelic ‘Teenager’ and grunge rock ‘The Taste’ the band revealed their debut EP with their final hook laden track ‘Bloodlust’ and the first photo of themselves. To celebrate the band played a packed out secret show in their hometown of Brighton. Initially only being known as ’the sweet taste of darkness’ Black Honey have gone on to become an unstoppable force and one of the most exciting bands of the year.
