Amber Asylum

Kris Force a její kapela Amber Asylum se na sanfranciské scéně objevila už na konci 80. let, kdy měla co do činění třeba s Al Margolisem nebo industriální ikonou Monte Cazazza. Pod smyčcové aranže a party všech zásadních desek Neurosis (od Souls At Zero dál) se podepsala právě Kris, přičemž se Steve Von Tillem má i experimentální projekt Culper Ring. Najdete ji taky na skvělých posledních albech Swans (před comebackem) i Body Lovers. A pak ještě na nespočtu dalších nahrávek (Tony Wakeford, Julia Kent, Jarboe, Bastard Noise,...).
Amber Asylum samotní zůstavali ale vždy v ústraní – jejich úzkostně komorní zvuk, kde se prolíná gotikou šmrncnutá neoklasika s temně ambientními proudy a izolacionistické písničkářství (à la raný Smog nebo naopak pozdní Grouper), příliš vstřícný k širšímu publiku není.
Po výborném debutu u Misanthropy/Elfenblut následovala řada alb pro Relapse/Release, z nichž to druhé – Songs Of Sex And Death – patří k vyvrcholení jejich tvorby. Extrémně statická, subtilní a zároveň propracovaná hudba chvílemi přesně vystihuje „amniotický sound“ jak ho pojmenoval William Basinski. Kris Force hodně ze svého výrazu vděčí také původně indiánské zpěvačce Buffy Sainte-Marie (především jejímu nadčasovému albu Illuminations z 1969), ke které se několikrát vracela i originálními covery.
Amber Asylum jsou romantičtí, ale patosu se celkem zdařile vyhýbají, možná proto, že jejich trudomyslnost a pošmournost míří bez afektovanosti přímo k podstatě těchto nálad. Posledních dvou alb se ujal agilní label Profound Lore a nyní se konečně poprvé objevují v Evropě!

Pod podivně převráceným alter egem ?aloS se skrývá něžnější (?) polovina OvO Stefania Pedretti, kterou zřejmě zažijete v animální surové poloze s noise/sludge kytarou a hysterickými vokály, případně pohrávající si s rolničkami symbioticky zapracovanými ve svém účesu, jenž evokuje dredaté verze hned několika úctyhodných monster. Ale ruku na srdce: čekat můžete vlastně cokoliv.

Zbývající vystupující – Diskrepant a Thomas Watkiss – oba frekventují temně ambientní žánr. Ten první minimalisticky a spíš z pozice soundartu, druhý zas z hlučnějšího ovšem taky mnohem konkrétnějšího spektra.

...is a highly-variable San Francisco-based music group that is the brain child of composer, singer, and multi-instrumentalist Kris Force.
AmberAsylum’s music is generally within the neoclassical or Dark Ambient genres, and it tends towards the romantic, introspective, and brooding. Violin and cello are the dominant instruments.
AmberAsylum might sound like the polar opposite of Asunder’s crushing doom and Wold’s terrifying prairie black metal, but the San Francisco foursome are just as capable of establishing dark moods to rival their Profound Lore labelmates.
Firmly rooted in the sedate yet experimental terrain of avant-garde chamber music and post rock, the overall effect of their distinct brand of doom and gloom is far more subversive: What starts out as breathtakingly lovely leaves us emotionally shattered an hour later.

Another world exists beyond ours, a world hidden inside every mirror. A mirror image of ours, in which the people carry marks of permanent memories that shape the characters and lives of everyone.
Signorina ?Alos is one of this world, she carries on her face the scars of the injuries to the spirit of Stefania Pedretti. That is who ?Alos is: the alter-ego of Stefania, her mirror image.

?Alos has found the path to reach us since 2003. From then she has been touring in Europe and U.S.A...

Thomas Watkiss
The work of Thomas Watkiss fuses a careful mix of drone ambient music and remnants of heavy metal distortion. The experience is likened to a “sonic meltdown” where traditional structure and harmony dissipate to a cold world of Watkiss’ “death ambient.”
His attention to detail in recording and physical intensity on stage have earned him an international audience that align him with early Lustmord, SWANS and even Merzbow.
The artist, however, makes no associations.
His newest solo release, ANCESTOR II : MACHINE is a nine track acceleration of his approach to writing that demonstrates a strengthened
manifest while exceeding expectations from his former ambient releases.
ANCESTOR II : MACHINE has gained critical acclaim receiving a spot in the Best Electronic and Rock Albums of 2009 by Dusty Wright’s culturecatch.com. Watkiss has performed and recorded in Scandinavia and across the US, completing the album in New York City.

Diskrepant
…is the solo project of Per Åhlund. He resides in Stockholm, Sweden where he’s involved in several experimental music-, improvisation- and sound art-projects.
With Diskrepant he explores the borders between sound and music, stillness and hysteria, darkness and light. He creates compositions on the verge of dissolving and focuses on atmosphere and texture rather than tonality and rhythm.
Diskrepant has released one split-CD and three full length albums with abstract, dark sound
scapes. ‘Folie à Deux’, ‘33-12’ and ‘Into Sleep’ was released by Swedish record label Fin De Siecle Media.
In 2009 ‘Ex Machina Libertas’ was released by English record label Fractured Spaces Records, an album that got a great reception from listeners and reviewers.
