I'm reminded this evening of a story of a farmer that had an old goat
And everywhere that the farmer would go
He'd always take that old goat along with him
But one day, the farmer decided he was going into town
And he was going to leave the old goat tied in the backyard
And while he was gone, that old goat got loose some kind of way
And they had in the backyard what they call an old dug well

What he did, went in the barn and got his shovel
And he began to throw dirt down in that old dug well

After a while, that old farmer stopped, 'cause he heard a noise in the well
He discovered that, that old goat was still alive
And the dirt hadn't covered him up yet
