Orbital是九0年代相当重要的Techno乐团之一，成立於1987年，由英国的两兄弟：Phil Hartnoll和Paul Hartnoll组成，有时简称"P&P Hartnoll"。Orbital的团名取名自英国的环状快速道路M25，该道路在八0年代末举办过许多大大小小的Rave Party，是英国Rave文化早期的重要发源地。 Phil和Paul分别生於1964年和1968年。八○年代初期正值两兄弟青少年时，他俩便接触了当时的Punk乐，Hip-Hop和电子乐，包括对Orbital往後影响深远的Kraftwerk乐团。Phil甚至还在Hip-Hop重要城市New York待过，Orbital早年还有Electro风格的作品呢。再加上摇滚乐的影响，Orbital的乐迷不只是舞曲迷，摇滚乐爱好者也不少。 虽然88年就有作品发表，但89年的单曲Chime才让Orbital浮上台面。Orbital并没有花太多成本制作这首曲子，只使用了一台四轨录音机，一台Keyboard，一台TB-303和一台TR-909电子鼓。虽然内容简单，但是音乐组合很新鲜。Chime不但让Orbital在英国的流行榜上榜上有名，同时也是Orbital现场表演的名曲。在这之前，Phil是个砌砖工人，Paul则组了一个名为Noddy & the Sate… 了解更多
